In a conveyor belt, the driving power is transmitted through the tangential force at the drive pulley which results from the friction between the belt and the pulley. The frictional connection is generated by pretensioning of the belt. In order to avoid “slipping” between belt and pulley, rubber lagging is applied to drive pulleys. The lagging increases the friction coefficient µ. At the same time, wetness and dirt are repelled, which secures a safe performance of the belt conveyor. In addition, drum lagging can reduce belt tensions and, therefore, a lower belt rating may be possible.

ContiTech IMAS has long experience in drum lagging. We assist our clients in selecting the right drum lagging for their applications. Our drum lagging is applied by a process including hot vulcanizing. The significant advantage of this process compared to cold drum lagging is the higher adhesion values we receive.

Through our specialized machine park, we can offer our customers lagging of new drums as well as removing old, worn out lagging and applying new ones. Our modern technology enables us to apply lagging to drums with a diameter of up to 1600 mm.
